Must-Read Tips for Visiting the Thai Islands

PAPER PLANES

  1. Great post as always. I am actually finishing up my Phuket write-up and will definitely link to this since you are always very thorough on options. I honestly heard a lot of negative feedback on Phuket and the kind of people that go there but if you do a little research, you’ll find those hidden gems. We did a boat tour with a company called Laguna (for a day) and though it wasn’t cheap (not a long tail boat but a small yacht), we got to see some truly incredible beaches that were less crowded than the famous Maya Beach etc. Also I so recommend visiting Koh Yao Noi. We ended our honeymoon there and I found to be so refreshingly uncrowded of tourists and full of little roadside cafes (there is just one ‘ring’ road that goes around the entire island. They have all sorts of accommodation there too and it is a great jumping point for island hopping around Krabi. You can just walk to the local pier and ask one of the long tail drivers to take you around or arrange through your hotel. I was also surprised how much the prices jump around the islands.. great advice on bringing extra money.

    ps. love your pictures!

Thanks so much, Georgette! There are certainly a ton of pros and cons about Phuket but thanks to it’s size you can also find a little bit of everything there…and the surround area is gorgeous! I went to Khao Yao Noi briefly and loved it as well 🙂

Awesome information. I’ve spent a lot of time hopping around the Thai islands and would completely agree that you shouldn’t try to cram in as many places as possible. People don’t understand that the travel time can actually take a lot longer than expected. It’s so much better to just take it slow in Thailand, and enjoy each island.

  4. Great information for people interested in visiting the Thai islands. It’s a shame you had difficulty in trying to reach Koh Lipe but most importantly, you did have a wonderful time on the Thai islands.
