Living in Thailand…and the Questions People Ask

  1. Rebekah says:

I tend to be fascinated by expats. Living in a place is very different then just visiting a place. I’m sad I’m not going to have as much time in Thailand as I thought I would but still really excited to be there in about a week. People would sometimes ask me if I had seen everything there was to see in China, which is sort of ridiculous since that would take a few lifetimes to fully see that country

I was telling a friend about my blog the other day (which he so does not care about) and he told me to check out yours and I’m so glad I did! You have a great writing style that is very honest and refreshing to read, also super useful for someone just moving to Thailand. Keep it up and I hope to run into you around Chiang Mai! 🙂

I love your blog. 🙂 I’m moving to Bangkok in a few months, and putting together a list of things to buy in bulk to have the movers send over. Other than my favorite booze and feminine products, is there anything you recommend bringing? Also. I’m a Yelp! addict. Is there anything like that in Thailand? Thanks!

Thanks for reading, Bethany! This post may be helpful — — you can get most things here but it’s nice knowing for sure you have a small stash of toiletries (and tampons) you prefer using. I also always bring some food items like peanut butter, olive oil, chocolate and refried beans if I have room since they’re more expensive over here.

As for Yelp-like site, you can find things in English on TripAdvisor and Zodio. Wongnai is great for restaurants but it’s only in Thai. I personally don’t use any of those types of sites, but find the features and recommendations from local lifestyles sites like BK ( or Coconuts are helpful. Also groups on Facebook!

There are so much things to discover in Thailand, agree with you. Even after living there for a few years, i still have a lot of places to go !
